Our Educational Approach

As a Classical Christian School, OCA has high academic standards. Traditional, core subjects are taught throughout a student’s time at OCA. Moreover, OCA uses young people’s God-given strengths at each age to help them learn. Scholars have sometimes used the Latin term, Trivium, to describe this time-tested educational approach:

Grammar Stage
Pre-K through 6th Grade

As children have retentive memories, memorization is emphasized during these years. A five year Latin program begins in third grade.

Logic Stage
7th and 8th Grade

Students begin to ask harder, deeper questions and want to know, “Why?” They are encouraged and gently challenged to begin to think and defend their positions.

Rhetoric Stage
9th-12th Grade

Building upon what they have learned in the previous two stages, students are taught and given the opportunity to express themselves persuasively.
